The Monterey County Rehabilitation Facility is a medium-security facility. The Detention Center only holds adults, both female, and male.
The facility opened its doors back in October 1987. When the facility first opened they could only house up to 125 inmates at any given time.
It wasn’t until 2007 where the daily population was brought up to 92 inmates. In 2018, the Monterey County Rehabilitation Facility underwent a big expansion project. The facility can now hold up to 154 inmates at any given time.
Majority of the inmates that are housed in the Monterey County Rehabilitation Facility are waiting for their trial or they are in their pre-trial phase. These inmates are currently not convicted on any criminal offense, but they either were denied bond or could not post bond.
While inmates are in the facility, they do have access to daily medical care. With the HIPPA laws, the medical issues of the inmates are 100% confidential and will NOT be discussed with anyone other than the inmate.
The Monterey County Rehabilitation Facility has a commissary. Even though they supply the inmates with their necessary items, if an inmate wishes to purchase something that the facility does not give them, they can do so here. The commissary is offered in the facility twice a week. An inmate will have the chance to purchase food among other special treats.
The facility runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. All staff members attend the California Law Enforcement Academy to learn all of the latest and greatest techniques when dealing with the inmates. All staff members are First Aid and CPR certified as well.
