First and foremost, the Miami-Dade County Women’s Detention Center is one of the largest bureaus that has over 450 employees who provide many services including providing for those who are in their custody, welfare, among many other programs and services. The Miami-Dade County Women’s Detention Center provides all of these services for nearly 2,700 inmates on a regular basis.

The Florida Detention Center is over the 268,000-square-foot facility. The facility can hold up to 2,980 inmates at any given time. This is why the facility is one of the largest in the bureau. Back in 1991, the Miami-Dade County Women’s Detention Center merged with the Miami Jail for a better, smoother operation style.

It’s the Captain’s job for overseeing the security operations in the Florida Detention Center. The shit commander and the Lieutenant will always be present in the facility as it is their job to implement any emergency plans and they also oversee the security and safety of the facility as well.  When the unit manager takes the day off the shift commander will be put in its place to directly supervise all inmate housing buildings and their operations. The staff will also conduct random searches on a regular basis to intercept any contraband in the facility as well.
